Abstract/Citation: Amends the Law (published as LS 1947-Jap. 5) in relation to remuneration, working hours and leave. Permits a shipowner to pay wages and other remuneration in forms other than legal tender in cases in which such payment is made in the manner provided by Orders (s. 53(1)). Seafarers' working hours shall be a maximum of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week on the average in a standard working period of up to one year, as fixed by Orders (s. 60). A shipowner must give seafarers one or more days of rest per week in a standard working period (s. 61). Contains provision for compensation in lieu of weekly rest (ss. 62, 63). Also governs overtime work and work on compensatory holidays in case of temporary need (ss. 64-66) and maintenance of leave and wage records (s. 67). A seafarer is entitled to 15 days of paid leave for each year of continuous service (ss. 74 and 75).
