Abstract/Citation: Made under Employment Insurance Act. Amends Employment Insurance Regulations (SOR/96-332). Introduces new type of employment insurance benefit: Compassionate Care Benefits. Compassionate Care Benefits will be available for a period of up to 6 weeks to be shared among eligible family members to provide compassionate care for gravely ill or dying child, parent, spouse or common-law partner. Benefits will be available to employment insurance claimants who are providing care or support to a family member who has a significant risk of death within six months.
