Second Region

Comprehensive legislation on immigration and refugees. Divided into five parts. Part I provides for requirements before entering Canada, examination, entering and remaining in Canada, inadmissibility, loss of status and removal, detention and release, right of appeal, judicial review, and protection of information. Part II deals with refugee protection. Inter alia provides for tightened ineligibility provisions for serious criminals, security threats and repeat claimants who seek access to refugee protection. Part III deals with human smuggling and trafficking. Part IV makes provision for establishment on immigration and refugee board, and defines its functions and procedures. Finally, Part V contains transitional and consequential provisions.
