Abstract/Citation
Amends International Maritime Act No. 9 of 2000. Amends Sections 3, 29, 30, 74, 75, and repeals Sections 4, 7, and 32 of the Act. Inserts new chapters 8 and 9 providing for rights and duties of master, rights and duties of seamen, and for registry of foreign maritime entities. Part III of chapter 8 deals with, inter alia, shipping articles, minimum age at sea, payment of wages, grounds for discharge, vacation and holidays, benefits of compensation for loss of life, working hours, overtime, repatriation, prohibition of corporal punishment, desertion, mutiny, contracts for seafarers, freedom of association, bargaining and execution of labour contracts, strikes, and conciliation, mediation and arbitration of employment disputes, differences and grievances.
