Abstract/Citation
This Order made pursuant to the Financial Administration Act remits unemployment insurance premiums paid by spouses and their employers from March 1, 1988, when spouses were considered to be in excepted employment. In 1988, the Federal Court of Appeal held that provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act that excepted from insurable employment the employment of a person by the person's spouse or by a corporation more than forty per cent of the shares of which were controlled by the person's spouse individually or jointly with the person, were invalidated by the Canadian Human Rights Act, which came into force in 1978.
