Second Region

The Employment Pension Plans Act establishes minimum standards which apply to Alberta members who participate in a registered pension plan, primarily in the private sector. The Act governs the establishment and ongoing administration of a registered pension plan; eligibility, enrolment, and minimum benefit entitlements for members; funding and investment of plan assets; disclosure of information to plan members; and rules on individual member termination or of the pension plan as a whole. The Act also includes rules related to locked-in accounts as well as outlining the regulatory and enforcement powers of the Superintendent of Pensions.
