Description

As part of the project 'The Other Migrants: Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Sustainable Development in the Republic of Mauritius', implemented by the Mauritius office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an assessment report was published in December 2010 with the aim of building knowledge of environmental change and migration in the context of Mauritius. The report presents the results of fieldwork and desk review conducted in 2010 by two experts on environmental migration and adaptation to climate change. The report provides vital information regarding climate change, affected populations, and the migration nexus in the local context. It serves as evidence for necessary early action and for the inclusion of the issue of climate change-induced migration in government policy, namely in the Maurice Īle Durable (MID) sustainability strategy. The results of the study were also disseminated to the broader public through the project's awareness-raising campaign.
