Description

As part of the project 'The Other Migrants: Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Sustainable Development in the Republic of Mauritius', the International Organization for Migration (IOM) carried out a sensitisation campaign between December 2010 and July 2011 to inform the general population of Mauritius about the consequences of climate change on human mobility and employment opportunities in the environmental sector. A variety of tools were used to target institutional stakeholders, youth, and the general public, including a short 19-minute video, 600 posters, a tree-planting activity, and a regional photo competition on the theme of adaptation to climate change. Regular information on the results of studies carried out by the project was shared with the press, and more than ten press articles were published. The project also contributed to several meetings on the subject of climate change adaptation, including the Mauritius Mayoral Consultation Forum in July 2011, the Discussion on Climate Change and Migration in Paris in March 2011, and the International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) discussion on migration and climate change in Geneva in March 2011.
