  Summary/citation: The Institute for prevention and labour security (ISPESL) is a public agency in the area of research, with scientific, organizational, financial, managerial and technical autonomy. ISPESL is a scientific-technical body of the National health system of research, working on research, experimentation, testing, consulting, support, advanced training, information and documentation concerning the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases, occupational safety and health protection and health promotion in the labour environment.   Summary / Citation: The employer, according to the nature of the activities and size of the workplace or production unit, shall take all the necessary measures concerning the provision of first aid and emergency medical care, taking into account any other people present in the workplace and establishing the necessary contacts with external services for the transportation of injured workers.

  Summary / Citation: The employer shall provide resting rooms, changing rooms and showers, toilets and sinks with running hot water near the worplace, if necessary, and provide the means for cleaning and dry.

  Adequate sanitary facilities shall be available to disabled workers.

  The employer shall maintain in a clean state facilities and dining halls, changing rooms, bathrooms, latrines, and dormitories.
  Workers shall use with care the premises, installations and fittings mentioned.
  The premises provided by the employer to workers for dormitory use shall meet the hygiene requirements of habitability prescribed for the local authority.
  Dormitories shall be heated in cold weather and be provided with artificial light in sufficient quantity, latrines, drinking water for washing and cooking, all meeting the requirements set out in the law.
  In such spaces is prohibited gas lighting, except in special cases and with the authorization and the precautions of the competent authority.
  The law also provides regulations for dormitories in rural workplaces.
  The law also provides rules related to the construction and surface measurements of dormitories.

• 4.8.4 Rest and eating areas

  Summary / Citation: The employer shall provide a resting area for workers, in particular when it is required according to the type of activity at the workplace.
  This duty is not required at offices or similar workplaces that offer an equivalent resting area during work breaks. Rest rooms shall be large enough and equipped with a number of tables and seats with backs according to the number of workers.
  Employers with more than 30 workers remaining at workplace during work intervals for meals, shall provide one or more eating areas, equipped with seats and tables. Canteens shall be well lit, ventilated and heated in cold weather. The floor will not be dusty and the walls shall be plastered and whitewashed.
  Labour inspectors can exempt the employer from the duty referred when this is not needed. Also at workplaces where workers are exposed to powdery or harmful substances labour inspectors can prohibit workers to have their meals in working areas and also to remain there during the time foreseen for meals.
  Workers shall have the means to keep their food, to reheat and wash it.

    - Master's Degree in one of the following classes: LM-4, da LM-20 a LM-35, LM- 69, LM-73, LM-74 as stipulated in the Decree of the Ministry of University of 15 March 2007.
    - Master's Degree in one of the following classes: 4/S, da 25/S a 38/S, 77/S, 74/S, 86/S, as stipulated in the Decree of the Ministry of University of 28 November 2000.
    - Master's Degree as stipulated in the Decree of the Ministry of Instruction of 5 May 2004.
    - Degree in one of the following classes: L7, L8, L9, L17, L23, as stipulated in the Decree of 16 March 2007.
    - Certificate in surveying or industrial expert or master in agriculture or agro-technicians and a declaration on the part of employers or clients, proving the performance of work in the construction industry for at least three years.

9.8 Provisions to protect workers in specific condition of vulnerability

• 9.8.1 Protection of pregnancy at work

  Summary / Citation: The law protects maternity and paternity leave, breaks, permits of workers also for adoptive children, as well as financial support to motherhood and fatherhood.
  The law protects the safety and health of workers during the period of pregnancy and up to seven months of the child.

  Compulsory maternity leave is 5 months. This will be divided in 2 months before and 3 months after the expected date of delivery, or if allowed by a medical certificate, 1 month before and 4 months after the expected date of delivery. For this purpose, the worker shall inform the employer, and submit a medical certificate with the expected date of birth.

  During pregnancy and up to 7 months after delivery (this provision applies also to adoptive mothers or foster-care mothers of a child under 7 months), female workers are entitled to be transferred to a different or a lighter job in order to protect the mother and the unborn or born child. The remuneration will be the same received by the worker before the transfer.

  Summary / Citation: During the first year of the child, working mothers can take two daily breaks during their working day, or one break if the working time is less than six hours per day. These breaks are of one hour each and the woman is allowed to leave the undertaking.
