Summary/citation: The Labour Code reformed in 2012, addresses in Title IV relating to the risks of labour the responsibilities of the employer and the determination of risk, occupational accidents, occupational diseases, compensation, safety measures, first aid stations, and work capacity.
Regulation No. 2393 of 1986, the leading OSH legislation, deals with worker safety and health and the improvement of the work environment. Additionally, the Andean Occupational Safety and Health Instrument and Decisions provides norms related to OSH.
There are other regulations relating to particular issues such as asbestos, pesticides, hazardous industrial chemicals, precautionary labelling, transportation, storage, and handling of hazardous materials.
In relation to the occupational accidents and diseases there is a group of regulations regarding the general risk insurance and the attributions of the Social Security Institute of Ecuador.
