Summary / Citation: Except where any dispensation has been granted by the Minister of Labour, women under the age of eighteen shall not be employed during the night in any public or private industrial undertaking or in any premises of these undertakings, with the exception of those where only members of the same family work.

Children and teenagers cannot be assigned to occupations which are likely to harm their development and their ability to reproduce.
The nature of the prohibited works for children and teenagers and the categories of undertakings which are forbidden to persons under the age of eighteen years are determined by the Decree n°2009-365/PRES/PM/MTSS/MS/MASSN of 29 May 2009.

The minimum age for admission to any type of employment or work shall not be inferior to sixteen years.
However, the requirement of minimum age can we waived for light work. The Order n°2008-27/MTSS/SG/DGSST of 26 December 2008 establishes the conditions and modalities to carry out light work.

Children and teenagers shall not be maintained in an occupation beyond their strength. Otherwise, the contract shall be terminated with payment of compensation. The labour inspector may require the teenagers’ examination by a certified physician to verify that their work is not beyond their strength. The teenager, his/her parents or his/her guardian are entitled to request such an examination.
