Summary/citation: The Angolan legislation can be described as a legal system that preserves the structural features inherited from Portuguese laws.
The Constitution of the Republic of Angola establishes the right of the worker to hygiene and safety at work in accordance with the law. This legal provision is at the top of the legislation which apply to all workers and all sectors of economic activity but does not have a legislative expression in respect of employees of the public administration.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security is competent for developing the OSH policy and the Ministries of Health, Interior and Education should intervene in the domains related to their missions. The cooperation between the State and organizations of employers and trade unions is carried through a tripartite body: the National Council on Prevention.
The General Labour Inspectorate is the main public service with competencies in the field of OSH.
