EXPOSURE & HEALTH EFFECTS

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance is irritating to the eyes and skin. Inhalation of the aerosol may cause lung oedema. See Notes. The substance may cause effects on the thymus. This may result in depression of the immune function.

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C on spraying.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
TLV: (as Sn): 0.1 mg/m3, as TWA; 0.2 mg/m3 as STEL; (skin); A4 (not classifiable as a human carcinogen).
MAK: (as Sn): 0.02 mg/m3, 0.004 ppm; peak limitation category: I(1); pregnancy risk group: B

ENVIRONMENT
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment. Bioaccumulation of this chemical may occur along the food chain, for example in fish and molluscs. This substance does enter the environment under normal use. Great care, however, should be taken to avoid any additional release, for example through inappropriate disposal.

NOTES
The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential.
Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor, or by an authorized person, should be considered.
