These regulations (effective 10 Jan. 1986) apply to self-employed craftsmen such as bricklayers, plumbers, roofers, electricians, painters, paperhangers, glaziers, etc. Contents: requirements to be met by the working environment (prevention of the spread of dust, smoke and harmful gases; radiation and noise control; prevention of falls; fire and explosion safety); equipment safety; precautions for the use of toxic or harmful substances; personal protection; responsibilities of manufacturers and suppliers; compulsory notification by the physician; hours of work; labour inspection; penalties. CIS 79-57 Use of asbestos in the building sector - Use of asbestos in the shipbuilding industry

These directives, issued under the 1977 Act concerning occupational safety and health and working environment (CIS 78-296), supplement Safety Rules No.5 issued by the Norwegian Directorate of Labour Inspection (CIS 77-1265). They prohibit the use of asbestos in paints and coatings, require other products to be substituted for it in insulating and sealing materials, and appoint prescribed dates for the substitution of other substances for asbestos in certain building materials. Rules concerning: use of asbestos cement pipes (maximum asbestos content: 12.5%; max. chrysotile content: 1.25%), demolition and renovation work (wetting before commencing operations, use of dust masks, changing and cleaning of work clothes, personal hygiene) and work on asbestos-cement slabs with electric tools with built-in exhaust device.

CIS 79-224 Exposed reinforcement bars
Oppstikkende armeringsjern [en noruego]
This directive applies to reinforcement bars projecting from the concrete before the next section is added, which represent a serious hazard of impalement for a worker who should fall on them. The Norwegian labour inspectorate requires all vertical bars projecting from concrete by less than 1.5m, if not protected by temporary formwork, to be shielded at their ends by wooden boards or covers, large plastic caps, etc., or bent 180°C so as to eliminate the hazard. Drawings are appended.
