This standard (effective 1 Jan. 1990) applies to the processing of wood in factories and in the open air in all sectors of the economy. It covers: generalities (including a list of adverse physical, chemical and psychosocial factors); process safety; buildings and yards; properties, handling, storage and transportation of starting materials, semi-finished and finished products and waste; installation of equipment and workplace organisation; personnel; protective equipment; monitoring.

The annexes to this decision of 1 October 1986 list 161 tasks in forestry (especially work with pesticides, production of pulp, paper and wood-based chemical products, woodworking, and production of fibreboard, matches and pencils. Extra pay for performance of these tasks is authorised. A separate list gives the posts or job titles for which supplements of up to 12% are payable when the jobs involve work with pesticides or with forest pests. The lists replace those approved by the decisions of 20 Dec. 1972 (Nos. 348/35 and 361/35 and 2 June 1985 (No.212/14-65.

This standard (effective 1 Jan. 1987) applies the general safety requirements of 10 other GOST standards in these machines, and requires that any machine with dangerous moving parts that cannot be seen from the control panel be fitted with audible warning signals that are set off when the controls are activated. Specific requirements are given for 15 types of equipment used to form, tip and pack matchsticks. Applicable electrical safety categories are also cited.
