CIS 88-1059 Mobile living quarters [Norway]

These directives (effective 1 June 1979), which apply to all types of forestry work, lay down rules for the design and equipment of mobile living quarters for forestry workers (choice of site, space per person, thermal insulation, windows, ventilation, heating, lighting, canteen, changing rooms, facilities for drying of wet clothes, first-aid box, cleaning, locks) as well as special rules for more permanent working sites. Plans for different kinds of mobile living quarters are appended.

These safety directives cover measurement, weighing and quality assessment of round timber: responsibilities, siting and equipment of measuring stations; equipment of transport vehicles (protection against falls of wood); requirements for ramps; safety measures (prohibition of climbing onto the timber, performing measurements during securing of the load, measuring suspended loads, etc.).

CIS 79-1439 Dwelling quarters

These rules (effective 1 June 1979) prescribe requirements to be met by the portable or mobile dwelling quarters employers must provide for timber workers: choice of site (less than 5 min. walk from work site), dimensions, thermal insulation, double glazing, ventilation, lighting, canteen, changing room, first aid equipment, housekeeping, etc. Special rules for more or less permanent worksites.

Contents: general rules (maintenance of tools and equipment in good condition; required skills; persons under 16 not allowed to use chain saws; rules for safe work with power saws); safe methods of tree felling (safe distances, escape route, etc.), disengaging felled trees caught in the branches of standing timber, cutting windfallen or dead wood, branching and cutting into lengths; safety rules for handling and carrying power saws, and for manual handling of logs; advice on use of personal protective equipment.
