Esta Directiva modifica la Directiva 76/769/CEE (ver CIS 01-965). Extiende la prohibición de la utilización del hexacloroetano a la fabricación y transformación de los metales no ferrosos, actividades para las se había establecido una derogación, con el fin de autorizar su utilización en los talleres de fundición no integrados de aluminio y la producción de algunos aleaciones de magnesio.

Esta Directiva fija los límites de concentración aplicables a determinadas sustancias y preparaciones peligrosas contenidas en productos para la venta y su uso por el público. Se trata de sustancias susceptibles de provocar alteraciones genéticas, sustancias clasificadas como tóxicas para la reproducción, sustancias que contienen compuestos de creosota o disolventes clorados, sustancias cancerígenas o mutágenas. En un anexo, aparece una relación de estas sustancias.

This directive specifies that the Member States shall take the necessary measures to prohibit work by children, that they shall ensure that work by adolescents is strictly regulated and that young people are protected against economic exploitation and against any work likely to harm their safety, their health or their physical, mental, moral or social development or to jeopardize their education. The general obligations on employers are described as well as the type of work prohibited. Special provisions apply to working time, night work, rest periods, annual rest and work by adolescents in the event of force majeure (unexpected emergencies). A non-exhaustive list of agents, processes and work likely to entail specific risks for young people is given in annex.

Principales puntos de esta Directiva relativa a la armonización de las disposiciones sobre comercialización y control de los explosivos destinados a usos civiles: disposiciones generales; armonización de las legislaciones relativas a explosivos; control de las transferencias en la Comunidad; otras disposiciones; disposiciones finales (sanciones en caso de infracción, medidas que permitan el embargo de los productos susceptibles de ser objeto de adquisición, de uso o de tráfico ilícitos).
