Electrode boilers for maintaining the steam pressure
Elektrodångpanna för tryckhållning [en sueco]
This directive (effective 1 June 1983) applies to electrode-heated steam boilers where the water is rendered conductive by addition of salts and forms the electric resistance. These boilers present an explosion hazard because of the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen which may form and accumulate during operation. Measures to be taken are: bottom blow-down at least once a day; boiler-water conductivity to be checked once every month; expansion-vessel pressure to be relieved and vessel to be blown-down once every week; safety procedures prior to inspections and repairs (de-energising, gas freeing, depressurising); metered addition of salt. A commentary is appended.
