This standard (effective 1 July 1990) applies to isolating suits (except diving suits), respirators, protective garments, gloves and boots. Experimental, custom-made and mass-produced articles are all subject to the standard. It prescribes laboratory and on-the-job tests, criteria and procedures for selecting subjects and for selecting and preparing articles, as well as maximum permissible values for heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.

This standard (effective 1 Jan. 1987) establishes a method for determining the abrasion resistance of materials and products made from natural or synthetic latex, rubber cement or PVC with or without fabric reinforcement. The method is based on measurement of the number of rotations of the abrasive head of the testing device that will produce a hole in the fabric. Contents: method of sample selection, apparatus and material, preparation for testing, testing, evaluation of results, a form for official reporting of the measurement.

Ratification of the Directive on procedure for providing workers with protective clothing, footgear and other personal protective equipment

This directive (ratified 24 May 1983) requires that appropriate protective equipment be provided to workers in accordance with model standards for their occupation, regardless of the industry or place where they are employed; policies are also specified for exceptional cases. Procedures are given for: requesting, accepting and storing of equipment by workers and supervisors; distribution of equipment by enterprises; wearing of equipment by workers and supervisors; care of equipment by enterprises; responsibilities of parties covered by the directive. An appendix lists the directives which are annulled by ratification of the present directive.
