This directive contains guidance on the work stations of cashiers in self-service stores. These directives, which implement section 12 of the Occupational Safety and Health and Working Environment Act of 4 Feb. 1977, were drawn up by the Norwegian Institute of Industrial Psychology to provide management and employees with the theoretical bases for assessment of the physical and mental stress which may result from poor work design. Contents: general rules (technological planning, work organisation and pay system conforming to the principles of ergonomics and of occupational safety and health); work design (worker's option to choose his working rhythm and make the best of his occupational skills); management and planning systems (worker information concerning systems used, and any modification thereof).
