CIS 03-1035 Health and Safety - The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 [United Kingdom]
These Regulations impose requirements for the purpose of eliminating or reducing risks to safety from fires, explosions and other events arising from the hazardous properties of dangerous substances at work. They implement in Great Britain the provisions of Directives 98/24/EC (CIS 98-1094) and 99/92/EC (CIS 00-1523). Contents: interpretation; scope (excludes ships, substances used during medical treatment, use of gas appliances burning gaseous fuel, gas fittings, handling and transport of explosives and chemically unstable substances, mining and quarrying activities, borehole sites, offshore installations, most transportation activities); duties of employers; risk assessment; elimination and reduction of risks from dangerous substances; classification and requirements of places where explosive atmospheres may occur; arrangements to deal with accidents, incidents and emergencies; information, instruction and training; identification of hazardous contents of containers and pipes. In schedules: general safety measures; classification of places where explosive atmospheres may occur; criteria for the selection of equipment and protective systems; sample warning sign for explosive atmospheres. A large number of older regulations are repealed or modified.

These Regulations consolidate and modify British legislation concerning the safe installation and use of gas fittings in order to protect the public from dangers arising from the distribution, supply and use of gas. The 1994 Regulations on the same topic, and their two 1996 amendments, are revoked.

CIS 97-731 Gas - The Gas Safety (Rights of Entry) Regulations 1996 [United Kingdom]
These Regulations (entry into force: 1 Nov. 1997) confer right of entry upon "public gas transporters" and "relevant authorities" to enter premises for the purpose of preventing gas escapes, examining and disconnecting "gas fittings" and related purposes.

CIS 97-374 Health and Safety - The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 1996 [United Kingdom]
These Regulations (entry into force 1 Mar. 1996) implement Directive 94/9/EC (see CIS 95-27) concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (the ATEX Directive). Contents: general duty relating to the placing on the market of equipment, protective systems or devices; conformity assessment procedures; notified bodies; enforcement. These Regulations implement in Great Britain certain provisions of Directive 92/91/EEC (see CIS 93-23), concerning the minimum safety and health requirements in mineral-extracting industries through drilling. CIS 95-813 Health and Safety - The Offshore Installations (Prevention of Fire and Explosion, and Emergency Response) Regulations 1995 [United Kingdom]
These Regulations (entry into force: 20 June 1995) contain requirements for measures for the protection of persons on offshore oil and gas installations from fires and explosions, and for securing effective "emergency response", i.e. action to protect persons on such installations in an emergency. Most of the duties imposed by the Regulations are on the "duty holder", who - depending on the provision - is the operator or the owner. The Regulations give effect to certain provisions of Council Directive 92/91/EEC (CIS 93-23). Offshore Installations Regulations 1976/1542, 1977/486 (CIS 77-2054) and 1978/611 are revoked, as are certain provisions of Regulations 1976/1019 and 1993/1321.
