CIS 11-0752 The Chemicals (Hazard Information Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2009
This document consists of the full text of the United Kingdom Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2009, which came into force on 6 April 2009. These regulations are also known as CHIP 4. CHIP is the law that applies to suppliers of dangerous chemicals. Its purpose is to protect people and the environment from the effects of those chemicals by requiring suppliers to provide information about the dangers and to package them safely. CHIP requires the supplier of a dangerous chemical to identify the hazards (dangers) of the chemical and provide information about the hazards to their customers. Suppliers usually provide this information on the package itself in the form of a label and package the chemical safely. The regulations are accompanied by an explanatory memorandum.

CIS 74-2099 Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 [United Kingdom]
This act dated 31 July 1974 comes into force at various times: 1 Oct. 1974, establishment of the new Health and Safety Commission; 1 Jan. 1975, creation of the Health and Safety Executive; 1 Apr. 1975, enforcement of the new obligations applying to all people at work. The act, which largely follows the recommendations of the Robens Committee (CIS 73-1126), draws together and disentangles the existing legislation on occupational safety and health. It brings the various inspectorates under one authority, the new Health and Safety Commission, responsible to the Secretary of State for Employment. The act prescribes duties for employers and others in addition to those under the existing health and safety legislation, which will be progressively repealed and replaced by regulations under the act. The broad subdivisions of the act cover: employers' and employees' duties; the new statutory bodies; health and safety regulations and approved codes of practice; enforcement; obtaining and disclosure of information on industrial injuries; special provisions relating to agriculture; the Employment Medical Advisory Service; building regulations; amendment of the Radiological Protection Act 1970 and the Fire Precautions Act 1971, etc.
