These Regulations revoke and re-enact with amendments the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 1994 (S.I. 1994/3247) (see CIS 95-23), together with a number of their amendments (including those abstracted as CIS 97-367 and CIS 97-1422). They implement in Great Britain the provisions of a large number of EU directives, including the Substances Directive 92/32/EEC (CIS 92-726), the Preparations Directive 1999/45/EC (CIS 00-1517) and the Safety Data Sheets Directive 91/155/EEC (CIS 93-1425). Contents: definitions; scope (dangerous substances and preparations, with the exception of medicinal products, controlled drugs, cosmetics, wastes, foodstuffs, animal feeds, radioactive substances, medical devices, finished products intended for a final user and samples, as well as substances or preparations carried by transport); procedures for classifying dangerous substances and dangerous preparations; description of safety data sheets; requirement that advertisements for dangerous substances and preparations must refer to their hazards; packaging and labelling requirements for dangerous substances and preparations; exemptions. In the schedules: classification schemes for dangerous substances and preparations; indications of danger and symbols for dangerous substances and preparations; provisions for classifying dangerous preparations; determination of concentration limits (when not given in the approved supply list); determination of concentration limits to be used for the evaluation of environment hazards; headings to be used in safety data sheets; labelling particulars for dangerous substances and preparations.

These Regulations amend the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 1994 (see CIS 95-23). They implement parts of Directives 94/60/EC (CIS 95-807), 67/769/EEC, 94/69/EC (CIS 95-809), and 67/548/EC (CIS 92-23). Includes a list of substances requiring an additional labelling phrase.

Approved supply list (third edition) - Information approved for the classification and labelling of substances and preparations dangerous for supply [United Kingdom]
This third edition of the Approved Supply List is for use with the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 1994 (CHIP 2, see CIS 95-23), as amended by the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Amendment Regulations 1996 (CHIP 96). It replaces the 2nd ed. (CIS 89-1437), as revised in 1989 (CIS 91-714). Information is provided on the hazard classification of each substance, labelling requirements (symbols, risk phrases, safety precautions, EEC number), concentration limits, and changes since the previous edition of the List. Alphabetical listings of substances, mixtures and isomers are included along with their index number in the List. Additional information is provided on pesticides and complex coal- and oil-derived substances. Also available on computer diskette.

These Regulations implement in Great Britain the provisions of EEC Directives 92/32 (CIS 92-726) and 88/379 (CIS 91-21), together with their adaptations to technical progress. Contents: scope (dangerous substances and preparations, with the exception of radioactive substances, animal feeds, finished products intended for a final user, cosmetics, medicinal products, controlled drugs, pathogens, samples, munitions, foodstuff, pesticides, wastes, other exempted products); definition of the "approved supply list"; classification of substances and preparations dangerous for supply; safety data sheets; advertising; requirements for packaging, labelling and marking; child-resistant fastenings; retention of classification data on dangerous substances; exemption certificates. In schedules: classification of dangerous substances (by physico-chemical properties and health effects); classification of aerosols as flammable; methods for the determination of flash points; indications of danger, hazard warning signs and symbols for substances dangerous for supply; classification provisions for preparations dangerous for supply and for pesticides; headings under which particulars are to be provided in safety data sheets; particulars to be shown on labels for dangerous substances and preparations; modifications of regulations concerning the flash point of flammable liquids. Statutory Instrument 1993/1746 (CIS 93-1424) is revoked.

Contents: definition of the "approved supply list" and the "approved carriage list", and of the terms "dangerous for supply" and "dangerous for carriage"; description of safety data sheets to be provided under these Regulations; requirements for packaging and labelling; derogations; keeping of data on dangerous substances. In schedules: classification of dangerous substances (by physico-chemical properties, health effects and environmental effects; accepted methods for the determination of flash points); indications of danger, hazard warning signs and symbols for substances dangerous for supply or carriage; classification provisions for preparations dangerous for supply and for pesticides; headings under which particulars are to be provided in safety data sheets; particulars to be shown on labels for dangerous substances and preparations. Statutory Instrument 1984/1244 (CIS 82-29), many times amended, is abrogated.
