Título Examination gloves as barriers to hand contamination in clinical practice
Información bibliográfica 21 July 1993, Vol.270, No.3, p.350-353. 23 ref.
Resumen A study was made of 137 procedures during which a health care worker's gloved hand was in touch with a patient's mucous membranes and was thus potentially contaminated. 86 of the 135 gloves cultured after use had gram-negative rods or enterococci on the external surface and microbial contamination of the health worker's hand occurred in 11 of these 86 events. Glove leaks and hand contamination were more frequent with vinyl than with latex gloves. Results show that under conditions of routine use, gloves effectively function as a protective barrier even when leaks are present.
