Resumen This report is one of a series addressing general issues relevant to blast and fire engineering for offshore structures. The current use of alternative materials to steels in explosion and fire resistant structures is reviewed; in particular, glass fibre reinforced plastics and aluminium. The major suppliers and manufacturers are identified, along with brief descriptions of their existing and proprietary explosion and fire resistant products. Technical details regarding fundamental material properties and design approaches have been collated and existing design codes and regulations are reviewed. Definitions and glossary of terms.
