Resumen This document provides an overview of the modes of transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus in the workplace, an assessment of the risk of transmission under various assumptions, principles underlying the control of risk, and specific risk-control recommendations for employers and workers. It also includes information on the medical management of persons who have sustained an exposure at the workplace to these viruses. The guidelines are intended for use by a technically informed audience to reduce the risk in the workplace of becoming infected with the aetiologic agents for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and hepatitis B infection.
