| Resumen |
In this introduction the author defines an estimated cost of a human life, giving the reasons and values on which he bases this cost and the various ways of approaching his calculation, taking into account financial and economic factors (loss of production and direct losses) and subjective factors (damages and compensation aspect). As he advances in his study, he shows the methods he uses and the data involved in each method. Application of conclusions drawn from the above calculations in estimating the cost, for society as a whole, of the principal social evils (traffic, commuting and workplace accidents, accidents at birth, suicides, abuse of cigarette smoking, alcoholism). Description of different methods used for the above calculations in Great Britain, Australia and the Federal Republic of Germany, and comparison of their results with those obtained in France. Lastly, considerations on the role and importance of the concept of defining the cost of a human life, following lines of argument which lead to philosophical and political considerations. |
