Resumen |
Observations were carried out in 20 blacksmiths in summer and winter. In summer the ambient temperature and the resultant time-weighted mean temperature, the mucosal temperature, sweat rate, serum sodium level, the Na/K ratio in saliva and the number of basophile leukocytes in the peripheral blood all showed significantly higher values at the end of the work shift than at the commencement. Diuresis and caloric uptake decreased significantly. In summer and winter the skin temperature correlated significantly with the resultant time-weighted mean temperature, and there was a significant correlation between heart rate and the workers' age. A significant correlation was observed only in summer between the resultant time-weighted temperature, skin temperature and the variations in the number of basophile leukocytes. A link could be established between the ambient temperature and the variations in skin temperature, serum sodium level and Na/K ratio in saliva. |
