Resumen |
This profile has been prepared in accordance with guidelines set by the US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the EPA. The key literature related to the toxic effects of acrolein is identified and reviewed. Contents: public health statement; health effects; chemical and physical information; production, import, use and disposal; potential for human exposure; analytical methods; regulations and advisories; glossary. Health hazards include: eye and skin irritation, ulceration and necrosis; irritation of the gastrointestinal tract; irritation of the respiratory tract; pulmonary oedema and lung haemorrhage, possibly leading to death; in vitro studies shows the product to be weakly mutagenic; IARC has stated that the product is not classifiable as to carcinogenicity in humans.
