Abstract This report describes the work carried out for the purpose of defining the conditions of application of a method for determining emission sound pressure levels based on the technique of recording three Cartesian sound intensity components. A single measurement enables the calculation of the complete sound spectra and of any frequency-weighted quantity. Over 400 acoustical situations were tested, including in rooms with K3 values of up to 14.5dB, significant background noise, composed sound sources, measurements in shadow positions and sources with high directionality. The method was found to be applicable in a wide variety of conditions and was incorporated into the ISO 11205 standard.
