Abstract Chemical safety information sheet. Update of data sheet already summarized in CIS 83-1937. Synonyms: methylmercaptan, ethylmercaptan, n-butylmercaptan. Acute toxicity: pulmonary irritation; nausea; diarrhoea; unconsciousness; respiratory impairment; methaemoglobinaemia or sulfhaemoglobinaemia; pulmonary oedema; transient renal damage. Chronic toxicity: irritation of the skin and of ocular and respiratory mucous membranes. Exposure limits (France): TWA = 1mg/m3 (0.5ppm) for methanethiol and ethanethiol; 1.5mg/m3 (0.5ppm) for all butanethiol isomers.
