Abstract The high level of occupational accidents and the growing occurrence of occupational diseases in the meat sector has lead to an industry-wide approach to evaluate occupational hazards, in order to implement improvements in working conditions, safety and health. The purpose of this guide is to enable enterprises in the meat sector to conduct a self-evaluation of the hazards and to implement corrective measures. The following aspects are covered through examples, questions and checklists: how to identify critical hazards; analysing critical hazards and searching for solutions; developing and implementing a safety and health plan within the enterprise.
