Abstract Cases of work-related post-traumatic neurosis are increasing. They can occur after an accident or tragic incident in which the worker was either a direct victim or a close witness; they can also follow incidents of physical or verbal violence. Unfortunately, they are not always recognized by employers or by occupational accident legislation. Contents of this review article: summary of regulations; description of post-traumatic neurosis symptoms; short case descriptions; approaches implemented by a public transport authority and a bank; role of employers; role of health insurance institutions; role of occupational physicians.
