| Abstract |
This Directive aims at the reduction of shipping accidents involving bulk carriers (i.e. single-deck cargo ships carrying dry cargo or mineral ore). Contents: definitions; requirements in relation to the suitability of bulk carriers and terminals; responsibilities of masters and terminal representatives; procedures between bulk carriers and terminals; role of competent authorities; repair of damage incurred, during loading or unloading; verification and reporting. Member States of the European Union are required to adopt and publish the provisions of this Directive before 5 Aug. 2003, and apply them from 1 Mar. 2004. |
