Abstract In medical laboratories there is a high risk of contamination from infectious agents entering the body by way of the lungs, skin, mucous membranes or blood. Working in unfamiliar premises represents an additional source of risk. This guidance note is aimed at helping medical laboratories prepare a safety and health plan for the repair and maintenance of instruments by external contractors. An example of a check list enabling the preparation of the safety and health plan is included.
