Abstract This booklet outlines the causes of back injury and lists simple rules for the avoidance of back strain during timber handling and work with chainsaws. Useful aid tools are described along with correct body position, correct use of chainsaws and the handling of timber and heavy loads. The importance of training for proper manual handling is emphasized, as well as the need to consult a doctor in the case of back problems in order to avoid this condition from becoming a permanent disability.
