Abstract Nickel is the most common allergen in patch testing. People sensitized to nickel are at elevated risk of hand eczema. Inhalation of soluble nickel and nickel oxides and sulfides causes nasal and pulmonary cancer whereas metallic nickel dust does not seem to be carcinogenic.
