Abstract Russian regulations consider the attestation or certification of workplaces according to the working conditions they present as being a system of analysing and evaluating workplaces. The main aim of the certification is to ensure that production units meet the requirements of occupational safety and health. It involves an evaluation of working conditions based on different risk criteria. Thus, the attestation of workplaces is part of the certification of production units. The English-language literature uses only the term "certification" covering the whole procedure. In Russia the terminology adopted for workplace certification is "attestation".
