Abstract This publication contains a collection of studies performed in the general hospital of Chúlec, Peru, situated at an altitude of 3,730 meters, on a series of diseases associated with high altitude. These studies are classified under the following headings: paediatrics, general medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, and occupational medicine. In the latter, studies were performed on acoustic trauma, auditory fatigue and prevalence of occupational deafness, assessment of the visual function of metal miners and levels of arsenic poisoning of exposed workers in a metallurgy plant.
