Title Job strain, social support at work, and incidence of myocardial infarction
Bibliographic information Aug. 1998, Vol.55, No.8, p.548-553. 29 ref.
Abstract In a study of workers in four rural Swedish counties during the years 1976-1984, an increased incidence of myocardial infarction was found for men and women in occupations characterized by low decision latitude. For men, this increase was seen primarily in combination with high psychological demands (high job strain) and low social support at work. If these associations are causal, they may be of substantial importance from the point of view of workers' health. Topics: age-linked differences; epidemiologic study; human behaviour; job dissatisfaction; myocardial infarction; neuropsychic stress; risk factors; social aspects.
