Title Effects of combined exposure to noise and toxic substances - Critical review of the literature
Bibliographic information Aug. 1997, Vol.41, No.4, p.455-465. 19 ref.
Abstract This review indicates that the information available on the health effects of the combination of noise and a variety of industrial substances is limited, particularly with respect to assessing occupational risk. Animal studies at high exposure levels indicate that there is a suggestion of some interaction between some substances and noise exposure. However, from the data currently available, inferences cannot be drawn on whether or not interactions would have occurred at lower, more occupationally relevant, levels of exposure. Data from human studies are also inadequate for assessing the combined effects of noise and chemical exposure on hearing. Topics: animal experiments; cadmium; p-dinitrobenzene; styrene; toluene; carbon monoxide; lead; health hazards; heart diseases; literature survey; neurotoxic effects; noise; ototoxic effects; synergism; toxic substances.
