Abstract This monograph presents the views and expert opinions of an IARC working group which met in Lyon, France 11-18 June 1996. Overall evaluation: infection with human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) or human T-cell lymphotropic virus I (HTLV-I) is carcinogenic to humans; infection with HIV-2 is possibly carcinogenic to humans; infection with HTLV-II is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans.
