Title A descriptive study of U.S. OSHA penalties and inspection frequency for musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace
Bibliographic information Aug. 1998, Vol.59, No.8, p.563-571. Illus. 23 ref.
Abstract While maximum penalty costs for violations related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) dropped over the period from 1988 to 1994, the median penalty value for an inspection with MSD-related violations actually rose by over 400%. Penalty values increased with establishment size and were higher for unplanned than for planned inspections. Results may be used by organizations seeking to demonstrate the advantages of reducing musculoskeletal morbidity in the workplace. Topics: cost of safety; enforcement; frequency rates; inspection records; labour inspection; musculoskeletal diseases; penalties; statistics; USA.
