||This thesis provides an overview of pesticide use and management in Kenya and presents the results of a series of studies concerning: acetylcholinesterase inhibition among pesticide-exposed workers; identification of the determinants of pesticide exposure; self-reported symptoms; patterns of pesticide handling and practices of agricultural workers; and knowledge and activities of health-care workers in the diagnosis and management of pesticide poisoning. Recommendations for health promotion interventions are put forward. Summaries in Dutch and Swahili.
