Title Socioeconomic status and lung cancer incidence in men in the Netherlands: Is there a role for occupational exposure?
Bibliographic information Feb. 1997, Vol.51, No.1, p.24-29. 34 ref.
Abstract In a prospective cohort study of 58,279 men in the Netherlands, occupational exposure to asbestos, paint dust, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and welding fumes was estimated from job histories, and socioeconomic status was measured using educational and occupational indicators. After 4.3 years of follow up there were 470 confirmed lung cancer cases. An inverse association was observed between socioeconomic status and lung cancer risk which could not be explained by occupational exposure to the carcinogens studied.
