Abstract This policy statement by the Canadian Medical Association addresses the role of physicians in assisting their patients to return to work after injury or illness. The physician is required to recognise and support the importance of the employee-employer relationship in assisting and promoting the return to work. Key principles concerning the physician's roles are outlined along with requirements for respecting patient confidentiality and managing medical information.
