Abstract Conclusions of this risk assessment document: little information is available on the effects of 2-furaldehyde (furfural) in humans; animal studies indicate that the substance is readily absorbed by inhalation or dermal exposure and that the main health effects of concern for occupational exposure are irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, genotoxicity and the induction of cancer.
