Title Occupational overuse syndrome and the effects of psychosocial stressors on keyboard users in the newspaper industry
Bibliographic information Apr.-June 1996, Vol.10, No.2, p.141-153. 29 ref.
Abstract In a survey of 550 keyboard users working in different offices of the same newspaper company, 29.3% of workers reported experiencing neck, shoulder or arm pain. Differences between high- and low-pain reporting office groups were significantly related to perceptions of the quality of the work environment. Factors associated with low-pain reporting environments included higher peer cohesion, higher staff support, higher control, less work pressure, less stress, greater autonomy and more physical comfort. Consideration should be given to psychosocial factors in the design of work and workplaces.
