Title The treatment of hydrofluoric acid burns
Bibliographic information Aug. 1996, Vol.46, No.4, p.313-317. 20 ref.
Abstract Properties and uses of hydrogen fluoride and hydrofluoric acid are outlined, the hazards of hydrofluoric acid burns are described, and treatments and first aid procedures are reviewed. Hydrofluoric acid causes severe and painful burns to the skin and eyes. Immediate dilution and decontamination of the exposed areas is most important followed by application of a topical modality. An injection of calcium gluconate solution should also be considered.
