Abstract The analysis of one case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is reported. Due to the fact that the patient had worked as a solderer for about 15 years, while being exposed to metal fumes (including lead) and solvents from varnishes, it is suggested that there is a direct relationship between these exposures and his subsequent motor-neuron disease. This interpretation is supported by other literature data, which are reviewed and discussed.
